Résumé: This chapter addresses the issue of topic extraction from text corpora for ontology learning. The first part provides an overview of some of the most significant solutions present today in the literature. These solutions deal mainly with the inferior layers of the Ontology Learning Layer Cake. They are related to the challenges of the Terms and Synonyms layers. The second part shows how the same pieces can be bound together into an integrated system for extracting meaningful topics. Whereas the extracted topics are not full concepts yet, they constitute a convincing approach in concept building and therefore in ontology learning. The chapter concludes by discussing the research done for filling the gap between topics and concepts as well as perspectives that emerge today in the topic learning area.

Résumé: Forums on the Internet are an overwhelming source of knowledge considering the number of topics treated and users who participate in these discussions. This volume of data is difficult to comprehend for a person with respect for the large number of posts. Our work proposes a new formal framework for synthesizing information contained in these forums. We extract a social network that reflects reality by extracting multiple relationships between individuals (structural relationship, name and text quotation relationships). These relationships are created from the structure and the content of the discussion. Results show that discovering quotation relationships from forums is not trivial.

Résumé: Organiser les données textuelles et en tirer du sens est un défi majeur aujourd’hui. Ainsi, lorsque l’on souhaite analyser un débat en ligne ou un forum de discussion, on voudrait pouvoir rapidement voir quels sont les principaux thèmes abordés et la manière dont la discussion se structure autour d’eux. Pour cela, et parce que un même texte peut être associé à plusieurs thèmes, nous proposons une méthode originale pour regrouper les données textuelles en autorisant les chevauchements et pour nommer chaque groupe de manière lisible. La contribution principale de cet article est une méthode globale qui permet de réaliser toute la chaîne, partant des données textuelles brutes jusqu’à la caractérisation des groupes à un niveau sémantique qui dépasse le simple ensemble de mots.
